Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly addressed the nation last night along with United States President Barack Obama, in the programme 'Man Ki Baat' on All India Radio, and  he expressed concern over the skewed sex ratio in the country.

In his address, the Prime Minister asked the people of the country to save the girl child and educate her, while taking it as a social and cultural duty and also as a human responsibility.

Mr Modi also praised the way Mr. Obama is raising his two daughters and said that it is a source of inspiration.
In his reply to this, Barack Obama said, his daughters wanted to come to India but could not leave school. He said, they are fascinated by the culture and history of India and are deeply moved by India's Independence movement and the role of Mahatma Gandhi.

On a question, the Prime Minister said, he had never dreamt of reaching the top level, but always aspired to serve the nation. Mr Modi asked the people not to dream of becoming something, but instead dream of doing something. He said, at the end it is the work which gives satisfaction and inspiration.

Mr. Barack Obama also said that satisfaction from helping somebody exceeds everything else. He said, it inspires to do more and helps get through challenges and difficulties.

"That is what usually makes me inspired to do more and helps get through the challenges and difficulties we all have because obviously we are not the only people with bad days at work. I think everybody knows what it is like to have a bad day at work, except that you keep on working through it. Eventually you make a difference."

Mr. Obama said that the youths are the global citizen and they are exposed to the world in ways that the people of the previous generations can hardly imagine. Echoing similar views, Mr Narendra Modi said, youth has the power to unite the world.

Yesterday's joint address is a sequel of the jointly written op-ed piece in 'Washington Post' when Prime Minister had visited the  United States to attend the General Assembly Session in September, last year.

Supreme Court has refused to interfere with the coal blocks’ auction process and allowed the government to go ahead in accordance with the Coal Mines Ordinance.

The court recorded Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi’s undertaking that the government, as a matter of policy, has decided not to take over or put up for auction any of the end-use plants of the licensee or lease holder whose allocations now stand quashed by the court. However, in order to ward off any prejudice, the government said it is willing to earmark the portion of the land occupied by the end-user plant falling within the coal block area, and exclude it from the auction process so that their rights of property remain intact.

The court was hearing an appeal by the government against an order on a petition filed by Kolkata-based Sova Ispat. Sova had pointed out that the ordinance promulgated by the government had no provision for compensation for end-use plants attached to the blocks and that it sought to take away the end-use plants without providing any compensation.
